Tom didn’t say much at first. He’s a quiet man, but this time, he was in shock.
For years, he has volunteered at the Noble Golf Classic.
Each year, he stands patiently at Tee 15 and thanks the foursomes for supporting Noble as they come through. Then, he offers to tee off for them.
Those who have seen his swing in previous years take him up on it. He has a powerful drive.
This past year, Golf Classic Committee Chair Mark Plassman noticed that Tom’s clubs seemed to be getting a bit old.
That can’t happen to a fellow golfer, so Mark approached The Sagamore Club General Manager Wes Marshall about it.
The two of them got together to donate a bag, a full set of irons, a 7 wood and a 5 wood, a bag of tees and ballmarks.
Then Mark visited the PGA Superstore, and told them about his idea. They donated a dozen golf balls to go along with a gift card so Tom could stop by and pick out a putter.
As Mark told Tom later, “I bet you’re like me. I’m particular about my putter.”
When Tom finished work today, he came back to Noble with his supervisor. He had no idea what was coming.
When Mark came in toting this incredible gift and presented it to him, Tom was at a loss for words.
Finally, he said with the biggest grin, “This is the best day ever!”
